wedding season

wedding season is quickly approaching! and with weddings comes bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and rehearsal dinners. if you’re anything like me this means you need lots of outfits on hand because you won’t want to wear the same thing twice (kudos to you if you’re an outfit repeater it’s definitely the smarter choice 😅).

this is your official reminder to start looking for those outfits now so you’re not left scrambling at the last minute and forced to settle on something that isn’t exactly right!

when it comes to choosing an outfit for a wedding there a few key things to keep in mind:

1. comfort

this is number one because i truly feel it is the most important thing! weddings are beautiful and fun, but also very long events. the last thing you want is to be wearing something you’re not totally comfortable in. whatever you choose needs to be physically comfortable to wear and also something you feel good in! there’s nothing worse than not feeling confident in your outfit, you’ll be fussing with it the entire time when you should just be enjoying the event

for me comfort includes a few things: a flowy silhouette so i can enjoy all the food and drinks without feeling self conscious about the inevitable bloating, a wide strap so i can wear my most comfortable bra underneath, at least knee length so i’m not worried about flashing everyone, and a light breezy fabric so i don’t sweat to death!

2. style

choose something that feels like you! make sure it’s a silhouette and colour that you feel confident and yourself in because like i said you’re going to be wearing it for a long time. in my opinion, weddings aren’t the time to be adventurous and experiment with something new, instead go for something tried and true!

a few other things to keep in mind:

if the outfit you chose has a pattern with a white background and you’re worried it’s too white, it probably is and better safe than sorry! i’ve done this before, wore the dress anyway, and had +++ regrets and worried about it the whole time i was there

keep in mind the overall vibe of the wedding (the venue, the bride’s style, etc.) and try your best to dress appropriately for it. for example, if it’s a casual backyard affair probably don’t wear a floor length gown and vice versa if it’s black tie don’t show up in a sundress 🤷🏻‍♀️

for me, a midi length fit and flare style in (shocking!!) a shade of blue is always just right

3. shoes!!!

don’t forget to make sure you have the right shoes! i have made this mistake one too many times and ended up wearing shoes that didn’t go with the outfit, or were +++ uncomfortable. i’ve said it a thousand times now but weddings are longgggg and there’s nothing worse than hobbling around with blistered feet because you wore the wrong shoes

it’s also important think about where the wedding is taking place when choosing shoes. if it’s outside on grass, or on the beach, go for a flat or wedge so you’re not sinking into the ground

i am a baby and cannot tolerate wearing stiletto heels, or anything above 2 inches in height for very long, so i usually go with a low block heel. wedges also work, but i find they look a bit too casual for most weddings. for whatever reason my heels tend to blister, so i try and go for a mule style if it matches my dress and the wedding vibe

as someone with sensitive feet i absolutely can’t recommend this stuff enough!! i put it inside the shoes where i can feel them rubbing against my skin and it prevents me from getting blisters

4. undergarments

i touched on this a bit already, but do not underestimate the power of good undergarments for a long day. they serve as the base for your look and truly make or break comfort in my opinion!

i have a larger chest, so i’m more comfortable wearing a bra. whenever possible i like to wear my every day bra (the sunnie lightly lined from aerie 10/10 recommend!!) because it’s the most comfortable. i’ve chosen outfits that require strapless bras in the past and it’s never been worth it, i just ended up fussing with it the whole time.

i love to go with either a high-waisted pair of underwear, or shape wear on the bottom. since i’m 99% of the time wearing a flowy dress the shape wear isn’t really for shaping (not that there’s anything wrong with that, you do you!!), but more so for support. all the standing in heels is hard on my old lady back and i’ve found wearing shape wear helps with that. i love these from knix!! supportive, comfortable, and not too thick, which is important when it’s super hot and humid out.

this was taken at my lovely friend’s december wedding!! i stuck to my own advice and went with a fit and flare silhouette, knee length, and flowy chiffon fabric in a beautiful navy paired with a low block heel. i was comfortable and felt like a more glammed up version of myself! sadly, this dress is no longer available and shoes are old, but here’s a similar pair!

now that we’ve gone through all the nitty gritty details, here’s a few looks i’m loving for wedding season this year!
